WATERVILLE, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-2-1) blanked Thomas College (1-7-1), 3-0, in a non-conference women's soccer contest on Thursday evening.
The Monks got on the board in the 28th minute when McKenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) came up the right wing and put the ball on the near post where it deflected in off of Madeline Wood (Madison, Maine) for the 1-0 lead. SJC got their second in the 32nd when Eilidh Sidaway (Dedham, Maine) sent a through ball from 30 yards out to Ashley Emery (Madison, Maine) at the top of the box. She finished to the right of the Thomas goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Thomas had their best scoring chance of the half immediately following the second St. Joe's goal when Kayla Sellars (Bunn, N.C.) had a header right in front ding off the right post. The Terriers got another scoring opportunity in the 41st when the Monks goalkeeper turned the ball over to Katriana Pratt (Poland, Maine) who blasted a shot just wide left and the Terriers went into the half trailing 2-0.
Thomas had their best scoring threat of the second half in the 77th minute, when a St. Joe's foul just outside the left part of the box set up a free kick for Molly Walker (South Berwick, Maine). She lofted the ball to the far post where it found the foot of Aubrey Schaeffer (Union, Maine), who fired it just wide. SJC picked up another goal in the 87th minute when Caitlin Chasse (Gorham, Maine) made a move around the Thomas defender inside the left part of the box and made a floating shot over the goalie to give the Monks the 3-0 victory.
Senior Cori Balam (Lyndeborough, N.H.) made seven saves in the victory to notch the first shutout of her college career. Isabelle Lang (Lincolnville, Maine) made six saves in net for Thomas in the loss.
With the triumph Saint Joseph's improves to 38-6-0 all-time versus Thomas College and has now defeated the Terriers in 23-consecutive meetings dating back to the 1990 season.
