NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 16, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team fell to Saint Joseph's College, 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Kelsey Field Wednesday afternoon.
Saint Joseph's improves to 10-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference action. The Monks travel to Albertus Magnus on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff against the Falcons. Colby-Sawyer falls to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the GNAC. The Chargers play at Emmanuel on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The visitors got on the board in the 20th minute when sophomore Eilidh Sidaway (Dedham, Maine) sent a cross through the six-yard box that was deflected by the Colby-Sawyer keeper. Sophomore Ashley Emery (Madison, Maine) then used her body to redirect the ball into the back of the net.
The Monks doubled their lead in the 31st minute after a perfect through ball by first-year Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) set up a breakaway for junior McKenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine). Murphy then shot into the opposite corner to record her fifth goal of the season.
Murphy added another goal in the second half when she finished a cross from senior Hailey Tarr (Eliot, Maine).
Sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made five stops in 80 minutes, while senior Cori Balam (Lyndeborough, N.H.) did not face a shot in the final 10 minutes. Colby-Sawyer first-year goalie Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) finished with seven saves in the loss.
SJC held a 16-12 advantage in shots (11-5 in shots on goal), while Colby-Sawyer had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
