NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (11-2-2, 7-1-1 GNAC) blanked Albertus Magnus College (7-6-1, 4-5-1 GNAC), 2-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a scoreless first half the Monks hit pay dirt twice in a matter of nine minutes early in the second frame, as sophomore Kayley Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) struck for her second tally of the season in the 50th minute and junior McKenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) added her seventh strike of the year at the 58:14 mark.

Mattos netted what proved to be the game-winner on an impressive individual effort, as the sophomore striker weaved through several defenders en route to kicking a shot into the upper right corner.

Murphy scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year on a corner kick with classmate Madeline Wood (Madison, Maine) earning the assist. After sending the corner attempt into the box, Wood collected a rebound and sent it towards the net to find Murphy, who knocked the ball in to make it a 2-0 game.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) turned away six shots to record her third shutout of the year while Albertus Magnus netminder Cassidy Scofield made eight saves in the losing bid.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the edge in shots (14-11), shots on goal (10-6), and corner kicks (5-2) in the victory.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 9-4-1 all-time versus Albertus Magnus College and has defeated the Falcons in three-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2017 season.
