Monks Overpower Eagles, 3-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (14-8, 4-2 GNAC) swept Husson (15-5, 3-1 NAC) in three sets (25-15, 25-11, 25-23) in a non-league volleyball match at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday evening. Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME) registered 13 digs, 11 kills and three total blocks in the triumph.

The Monks controlled the pace from the beginning, as the Royal Blue raced out to a 10-1 lead in the opening set and did not trail in the score column until partway through the third set. The Eagles fell victim to 21 attack miscues and 13 reception errors and posted a -.051 attack percentage in the match.

Brooke Dyer '14 (Lebanon, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) notched 12 kills, eight digs and three service aces along with an astounding .476 attack percentage, the best mark of the season for the Monks, in the one-sided match. Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) posted 33 assists, seven digs and four aces and Jordan Pelczar '12 (Meredith, NH) had eight digs for the Royal Blue.

Monks freshman Erica Russi (Debary, FL) chipped in with seven digs and two aces, while Alyssa Grigware '13 (Biddeford, ME) and Kristin Palladino '14 (Exeter, NH) both belted a pair of aces in the sweep.

For Husson, Kaitlyn McKay '12 (Lincoln, RI) registered a game-high 16 digs with five kills and Rachel Voicechovski '12 (Westerly, RI) added 10 digs in the losing effort. Hannah Olstad '13 (Farmington, NH) paced the Eagles with eight kills and Aleta Johnson '13 (Milton, NH) had seven digs in the loss.

Saint Joseph's will face GNAC foe Norwich University in Northfield, VT on Saturday at 1:00 PM, while Husson will host Unity College on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00 PM.
