Nor'easters Blank Monks, 3-0

BIDDEFORD, ME - Saint Joseph's (4-2) suffered a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20) defeat at the hands of University of New England (2-7) in a non-conference volleyball match on Thursday night. 

For the Monks, junior Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine) tallied seven kills and sophomore Brooke Dyer (Lebanon, Maine) chipped in with six. Junior Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine) was credited with 19 assists and 10 digs.

Nor'easters junior Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) led all players with 11 kills to go with three blocks while senior Abby Davis (Somersworth, N.H.) recorded eight kills and 12 digs on the evening. Sophomore Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) threw in seven aces on top of her 25 assists and seven digs and junior Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) chipped in with seven digs for the hosts.

Both teams are back in action Saturday. UNE opens Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a road trip to Western New England University (1 p.m.), while St. Joe's heads to Mount Ida College to begin the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule for a pair of contests -- one with the host Mustangs (10 a.m.), and another with Suffolk University (12 p.m.).
