Monks Spurn Beavers, 3-0

FARMINGTON, ME – Saint Joseph's (17-5, 6-3 GNAC) shut down University of Maine-Farmington (5-14, 2-3 NAC), 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-12), in a non-conference volleyball match on Monday evening. Senior setter Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied 21 assists, five aces, five digs and four kills in the victory.

For the Monks, Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.), Cassie Leach (Middleboro, Mass.) and Holly Bannister (Cumberland, Maine) produced six kills apiece and senior Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine) added three kills and nine digs on the evening. Junior Brooke Dyer (Lebanon, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) chipped in with four kills, five digs and three service aces and Maddie Lepore (Winchester, Mass.) notched three aces and five digs versus the Beavers.

For Farmington, Jen Vadnais put up seven kills and nine digs and Whitney Walls chimed in with 13 assists and six digs in a losing effort.

St. Joe's, which defeated UMF by the same score at the Alfond Center on October 4th, is now 25-25 since the beginning of the 1991 season and has defeated the Beavers in nine straight meetings dating back to the 2008 campaign.

Saint Joseph's will play at Emmanuel College in a conference match slated to start at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
