Saint Joseph’s Topples Daniel Webster, 3-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College (11-2, 2-0 GNAC) defeated Daniel Webster College (3-6, 0-0 NECC), 3-0, in a non-conference volleyball match at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday night. Freshman outside hitter Victoria Huntley (Ellsworth, Maine) tallied nine kills, four service aces and six digs in the shutout victory.

The Monks started off slowly in the first two sets, as the hosts faced deficits early but rebounded to score three convincing set victories en route to claiming the team's seventh shutout of the fall.

Saint Joseph's featured a balanced offensive attack with four players registering six or more kills in the triumph. Sophomore Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) posted seven kills and seven total blocks – including six solo rejections, freshman Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) added six kills and 11 digs and senior Holly Bannister (Cumberland, Maine) chipped in with six kills for the hosts.

Freshman setter Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Maine) was credited with 26 assists and senior libero Erica Russi (Debary, Fla.) added 14 digs in the SJC victory.

Daniel Webster freshman outside hitter Samantha Betts (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) boasted a match-high 12 kills with 14 digs while senior setter Ally Hayden (Bedford, N.H.) notched 13 assists and junior libero Maggie Belli (Miami, Fla.) contributed 12 digs in a losing effort for the Eagles.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-3 in the history of the series with Daniel Webster College.

The Monks will host conference rivals Albertus Magnus College (2:00 PM) and University of Saint Joseph (6:00 PM) in a GNAC tri-match on Saturday. The Eagles are off until next Tuesday when they play host to Lesley College in the team's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener at 7:00 PM.
