Women Finish Fifth at UNE Invite

BIDDEFORD, ME – The St. Joe's Women's Cross Country team placed fifth, with 119 points, in the University of New England Invitational Meet on Saturday. Danielle Cusack '13 (Portland, ME/Deering) cruised to a third-place finish with a 21:31 effort in the 5K event.

Cusack finished just 18 seconds off the pace, as Husson's Angela Staubie clinched individual honors with a 21:14 performance. Staubie also won the UMF Invitational last weekend for the Eagles. Colleen Ahern of UNE completed the course in 21:25 and placed second.

University of Southern Maine captured team honors in the meet with 42 total points and three runners in the top 10, and six in the top 15, overall. UNE placed second (55 pts), while University of Maine-Farmington (77), Husson (106), St. Joe's, Lyndon State (145), Maine Maritime (225) and Unity College (229) rounded out the team scoring.

Rounding out the top five for the Monks were Christina Meehan '11 (Nashua, NH) (23:20, 27th), Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) (23:57, 32nd), Laura Mills '13 (Mattapoisett, MA) (24:49, 43rd) and Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, ME) (24:50, 45th). Allison Pearsall '12 (West Newbury, MA) finished right behind Condon with a 24:56 effort.

Saint Joseph's will host the Monks' annual Alumni Meet next Saturday on the SJC course at 10:00 AM.
