Women's Cross Country Places Fifth in UNE Invite

BIDDEFORD, ME – Saint Joseph's College placed fifth with 147 team points in the 5K University of New England Invitational meet at Rotary Park on Saturday. Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, Maine) led the Monks with a 23:04 effort and placed 19th overall.

Condon has showed steady improvement since joining the team as a freshman in 2009 and her time, overall finish, and team finish all rank as career bests. Just two years ago, the junior runner posted a 26:50 time in the UNE event.

For the Monks, Sarah Cadorette '15 (Lyman, Maine) placed 26th (23:37), Audrey Curry '15 (Perry, Maine) finished 49th (25:31), Macy Pagurko '14 (Augusta, Maine) was 55th (25:52) and Melissa Deplanche '15 (Dover, N.H.) toured the 5K course in 27:05 to collect a 67th-place finish.

Emily O'Connor '15 (Scarborough, Maine) (73rd, 27:54), Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, Mass.) (74th, 27:55) and Rachel Sevigny '12 (Saco, Maine) (89th, 31:55) also competed in the annual event.

The Nor'easters distanced themselves from the competition in the 11-team field to win the meet with a score of 33 points. The hosts' depth carried them to victory, as UNE placed its five scoring runners in the Top 10 to tip second-place University of Southern Maine (44). Husson University tallied an aggregate score of 76 to place third.

USM junior Molly Carl (York, Maine) was the individual winner with a course-record time of 20:28. Sophomore teammate Morgan Beede (Augusta, Maine) earned second-place honors with a time of 20:53.

UNE sophomore Colleen Ahern (Salem, Conn.) led for a portion of the race before settling for a third-place showing. Ahern looped the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:59.

Saint Joseph's will next hit the trials on Friday, September 23rd in the Rivier College Invitational.
