Dostie Places 11th in ECAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Freshman Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) continued her impressive first-year run with a 23:31 effort and subsequent 11th-place finish in the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII Cross Country Championship at Mount Greylock Regional Middle School on Saturday.

In the first 6K race of her collegiate career Dostie recorded a 6:19 average mile and finished less than a minute off the pace of race-winner Claire Mcllvennie of Middlebury College, who posted a 22:34 effort in the annual event.

Dostie's effort in the regional race is the best ever posted by a Saint Joseph's College female runner. Only men's runner Ryan Prescott '09, who placed ninth in the 2008 event, has notched a higher ranking. Sarah Willis '08 is the only SJC performer to even come close as the former standout registered a 23:52 time to place 41st in the 2005 ECAC race.

Led by Mcllvennie's performance and four of the top five runners overall Middlebury cruised to the team victory with just 25 points. Williams College was the runner-up with 40 points while Tufts University finished a distant third with 162 team points.

For the Monks, Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, Maine) placed 124th with a 26:48 time, Sarah Cadorette '15 (Lyman, Maine) toured the 6K course in 27:24 to finish 146th, Audrey Curry '15 (Perry, Maine) was 237th (30:24), Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, Mass.) placed 252nd (31:21), and Emily O'Connor '15 (Scarborough, Maine) finished in 271st (33:58) place.

Saint Joseph's will compete in the NCAA DIII Regional Championship in Brunswick, Maine next Saturday at 11:00 AM.
