Monks Finish 42nd at New England Cross Country Championship

BRUNSWICK, ME – The SJC women's cross country team placed 42nd with 1231 points in the 2011 NCAA New England 6K Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) finished 68th out of 353 runners with a 23:16.31 time in the annual championship, which was hosted by Bowdoin College.

Dostie's shaved 15 seconds off her time at the 6K ECAC Championship last weekend and her time was the fastest posted by a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) runner at the regional competition. For Saint Joseph's, which has now participated in the NCAA Regional in each of the last 10 years, Dostie's time and place both rank as program-bests.

With 55 team points, Middlebury College edged Williams College (60 points) for the team championship and both squads gain automatic entrance into the NCAA DIII Men's Cross Country Championship, which will take place at Wisconsin-Oshkosh next Saturday.

MIT (134 points), Amherst College (142) and Tufts University (181) rounded out the top five participating institutions.

Williams sophomore Chiara Del Piccolo captured top individual honors, covering the 6-kilometer course in 20:52.43, over 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Randelle Boots, a junior from Wellesley. Amherst junior Keri Lambert finished third (21:08.93) and a pair of Middlebury runners – senior Margo Cramer and junior Addie Tousley – placed fourth (21:12.58) and fifth (21:16.57), respectively.

For St. Joe's, Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, Maine) placed 236th (26:02), Sarah Cadorette '15 (Lyman, Maine) finished 295th (27:38), Audrey Curry '15 (Perry, Maine) was 318th (29:19), and Melissa Deplanche '15 (Dover, N.H.) raced to a 330th (30:16) place finish. Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, Mass.) (341, 31:33) and Emily O'Connor '15 (Scarborough, Maine) (343, 31:57) also competed in the championship for Saint Joseph's, which closes the 2011 season with the annual event.
