Women Finish Third at UNE Tri-Meet

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College women's cross country team kicked off the 2016 season with a 5K race hosted by University of New England at Rotary Park on Saturday.

THE LEAD

The Monks, with 62 points, finished in third place behind University of New England (15) and University of Maine-Farmington (61) and were led by sophomore Sarah Curtin (Strafford, N.H.), who placed sixth with a 20:56 time.

UNE cruised to victory with the minimum amount of points after placing all five of the top finishers, including Emily Wasina, who led the pack with a 20:12 performance.

Today's event counts as the cross country debut for Head Coach Scott Hutchinson, who was hired as the leader of the Monks' cross country and track & field programs last spring.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday with an appearance in the Husson Invitational. The women's race is slated to begin at 12:00 PM.
