Women Finish Fifth in Maine State Championship

GRAY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College women's cross country team placed fifth with 164 team points in the 2016 Maine State Cross Country Championship at the Pineland Center on Saturday. Sophomore Sarah Curtin (Strafford, N.H.) paced the Monks and finished 30th out of 114 competitors with a 20:21 effort in the 5K race.

Curtin was one of seven SJC runners to post PR times as this year's group helped the Monks tie the team record for best finish in the State Championship. The 2012 team, led by Amber Dostie '15 with an 18:30 performance, also placed fifth with 159 points. Last fall, Saint Joseph's finished ninth with 257 team points.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Curtin's PR time was the fourth fastest time ever recorded by an SJC runner in the State Championship
  • Sophomore Lauren Lecompte (Lewiston, Maine) finished 47th with a 21:27 effort
  • Freshman Amanda Tavoletti (Reading, Mass.) was 59th with a PR 22:26 time
  • Senior Marisa Lundy (Merrimac, Mass.) placed 63rd with a PR 22:32 performance
  • Sophomore Kelsey Barrett (Gardiner, Maine) finished 70th with a 23:01 time and tied her PR
  • First-year Mackenzie Beaudoin (Fayette, Maine) was 85th with a 24:04 effort
  • Freshmen Sydney Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) (24:05, 86th) and McKenzie Pepin (Windham, Maine) (24:12, 89th) and senior Meghan Fullarton (Windham, Maine) (27:37, 107th) also posted PR times
  • Sophomore Emily Tourangeau (Scarborough, Maine) rounded out the Monks' participants and placed 113th (32:04)
