WATERVILLE, Maine. – The Saint Joseph's College Men's and Women's cross country teams posted 8th and 5th place finishes at The Maine State Championship Invitational at Colby Saturday. The men posted 221 points in the 8K race while the women registered 177 points in the 5K event.
The Women tied with both the 2012 and 2016 women's teams for the highest team finishes at Maine States with this year's 5th place finish.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
Bates won the event with 25 points, just ahead of Bowdoin (32) and Colby (81) with Bowdoin senior Caroline Shipley taking home the individual championship after touring the course in 19:10.2 minutes.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Freshman Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) paced the Monks and placed 48th overall with a 22:05.8 time
- Junior Lauren Fisher (Hampton Falls, N.H.) was the second SJC runner to cross the finish line and was 52nd with a 22:24.5 effort
- Freshman Camilla Grosso (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) followed right behind for a 53rd finish cruising in at 22:25.6
- Sophomore Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) placed 61st with a 22:46.5 performance
- Junior Holly Moores (Rollinsford, N.H.) rounded out the top five SJC runners with a 23:10.6 time and placed 70th overall
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
Bates claimed the invitational title with 34 points, only four ahead of runner-up Colby, while freshman Tyler Morris won the event with a 25:56 time, with teammate Eli Decker following in right behind.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Sophomore Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) led Saint Joseph's with a time of 27:50.3 battling the rolling hills for a 26th overall finish
- Sophomore Jacob Huberdeau (Plaistow, N.H.) was 63rd coming back from being out the past two meets with a 29:47.3 effort
- Freshman Ricardo Reyes (Worcester, Mass.) dived to the finish, literally, to move up two spots for a 71st finish in 30:11.3
- Junior Michael Mason (East Bridgewater, Mass.) toured the 8k course in 30:15.1 and was 75th overall
- Junior Brandon Whitlock (Westbrook, Maine) was the fifth SJC runner to cross the line and placed 90th overall with a 31:31.5 performance
