STANDISH, Maine – Members of the Saint Joseph's College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and physical education students volunteered their time to promote physical activity at Windham Primary School on Tuesday, February 26th and Thursday, March 14th.
Led by SAAC Advisor/Senior Women's Administrator/Asst. Athletic Trainer Tiffany Miller-Gagnon and Assistant SAAC Advisor Megan Dunlap '18, a total of 18 athletes represented 9 different SJC varsity teams participated in the two-day event. Individuals from the Monks' men's soccer, women's soccer, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, cross country, track & field, softball, women's basketball, and baseball programs assisted in teaching second and third graders the fundamentals of their respective sports.
With the help of Physical Education Teacher Stacey Turkington, an SJC alum, the athletes divided the students into stations, with each individual receiving approximately five minutes of instruction in a variety of sports, including basketball, track & field, softball/baseball, soccer, and lacrosse.
Participating SAAC members included: Megan Baker (field hockey), Alexis Charles (field hockey), Maizie Lee (softball), Lillian Bissett (track & field), Sarah Curtin (cross country/track & field), Michael Mason (track & field) Kayla Gooch (soccer), Erin Olson (volleyball), Elizabeth Callahan (lacrosse), Dan Cunningham (lacrosse).
Participating physical education students included: Glenn Dion (lacrosse), Ben Toussaint (lacrosse), Julia Champagne (basketball), Luke Johnson (baseball), Mattingly Simaan (baseball), Trevor Lopes (soccer), Cody Elliot (soccer),and Kaylee Burns (softball).
