Stephens Earns Second GNAC Top Rookie Honor

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College first-year pitcher/infielder Luke Stephens (Glastonbury, Conn.) has been chosen as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week for the second time this spring.

Stephens belted a walk-off home run in the 10th inning to lift Saint Joseph's over New England College, 6-5, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. Overall at the plate, Stephens hit .273 (3-11) and walked three times for a .429 OBP to go with three runs, a double, a homer, and two RBI in the Monks' 3-1 week. On the mound in a 5-3 loss at Colby, Stephens struck out six and allowed three runs (none earned) over 4.2 innings.

Through 17 games this season, Stephens is hitting .176 (6-34) with five runs, a double, two home runs, and six RBI. On the mound, the righthander is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 13 strikeouts – against six walks – in 12.2 innings.

Saint Joseph's (8-9) will play at University of Southern Maine tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
