Jalbert Earns GNAC Pitcher of the Week Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and Saint Joseph's College junior Samuel Jalbert (Mascouche, Que.) has been picked as the GNAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Jalbert out-dueled NCBWA Rookie of the Week Nick Choate to help the Monks defeat Anna Maria, 3-1, in the opener of a huge two-game set versus the AMCATS on Friday. The junior right-hander allowed one hit through four frames and finished the game having allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts over five innings facing a lineup that ranked in the top-five nationally in batting average.

Through games played on April 18th, Jalbert is 2-2 on the season with a 4.13 ERA and 42 strikeouts – against 16 walks and 23 hits allowed – over 32.2 innings. He has held opponents to a measly .190 (23-120) batting average. Overall, he ranks second in the conference in games started (7), strikeouts, and strikeouts per nine innings (11.57).

In four starts versus GNAC opponents, Jalbert sports a 2-0 record with a 1.13 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 24 innings. Conference hitters are batting just .153 (13-85) against him and, against GNAC opponents, Jalbert ranks first in the league in innings (24) and strikeouts and second in ERA.

For Jalbert, the GNAC weekly honor is the first of his career. He is the third SJC pitcher to earn weekly conference accolades, as senior Matt Poff (Pelham, N.H.) and freshman Jason Johnson (Thomaston, Conn.) claimed GNAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, on March 28th.

Saint Joseph's will host Husson University on Wednesday in a single nine-inning non-conference game slated to start at 4:00 PM.
