Saint Joseph’s Topples Husson, 13-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (14-17) toppled Husson University (10-15), 13-0, in a non-conference baseball contest at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, when senior Jackson Stanton (Saugus, Mass.) singled and later scored on a Dawson Gundlah (York, Maine) groundout. The 1-0 edge remained until the bottom of the sixth, when freshman Terry Morrissey (Andover, Mass.) and Gundlah registered RBI base hits to make it a 3-0 game.

Saint Joseph's put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh when the SJC offense exploded for 10 runs on five hits while facing five different Husson pitchers. Freshman center fielder Jared Wilhelm (Tolland, Conn.) delivered three runs with his second home run of the season while Stanton notched a pair of RBI doubles and sophomore Alex Moore (Henniker, N.H.) ripped an RBI triple during the offensive showcase.

ON THE MOUND:

The Monks scripted the use of seven different pitchers in the victory as freshman starter Padraig Mac Seain (Brookline, N.H.) earned the win after tossing three one-hit innings while striking out three batters. Hugh Barrett (Durham, Conn.), Brendan McCaffrey (Warwick, R.I.), Dylan Brander (Merrimack, N.H.), Samuel Jalbert (Mascouche, Que.), Matt Thibault (Nashua, N.H.), and Luke Stephens (Glastonbury, Conn.) combined to work six innings while allowing one hit and three walks with 11 strikeouts.

Husson junior starter Chris Naylor (Windham, Maine) took the loss after allowing one run on one hit and a pair of walks in 1.2 innings. Eight relievers followed for the Eagles with freshman Sully Beers (Grand Isle, Vt.) being the most effective after working 2.1 shutout innings.

OFF THE BAT:
