STANDISH, ME - SJC Field Hockey Head Coach
Rupert Lewis has announced his
award recipients for the 2007 season.
Sophomore defender Kimberly Glynn
(Danvers, MA) and freshman goalkeeper Kathleen
Simoes (Wakefield, MA) were named as the Co-Most
Valuable Players for the record setting 14-7 squad. Both players
played crucial roles for a St. Joe's defense that allowed a mere
1.1 goals per game last season. The rookie Simoes posted a 7-7
record, 3 shutouts, 1.34 goals against average and an .807 save
percentage. Glynn was the backbone of the SJC defense all season
and made several key defensive stops in the ECAC semifinal victory
over Plymouth State.
Freshmen Alyssa Dunn (Standish,
ME) and Maria Arsenault (Berlin,
NH) share the 2007 Rookie of the Year Award. Dunn, a defender, used
her strength and quickness to help keep opposing offenses at bay.
She also scored a dramatic penalty shot goal in the eventual ECAC
quarterfinal victory over Wheaton College. Arsenault, a midfielder,
helped spark the St. Joe's offense in her first year with 5 goals
and 4 assists for 14 total points.
Junior midfielder Gina Gaetani
(Auburn, ME) has been named the 2007 Outstanding Team Member for
her efforts on and off the field during the season. Gaetani, a
tri-captain, tallied 4 goals and 6 assists for 14 total points for
Coach Lewis between the lines, but offered an even greater
contribution off the field with her fund-raising efforts and her
willingness to provide assistance with all types of team
duties.
Sophomore forward Julia Ostrowski
(Albany, NY) has been honored with the 2007 Coach's Award.
Ostrowski led St. Joe's with 20 points (6 goals, 8 assists) and
always exhibits a great attitude and work ethic. After the
completion of the '07 campaign she was named to the 2007
Longstreth/ NFHCA All-New England West Region Second Team.
