St. Joe's "Kat" Tames Panthers, 1-0

STANDISH, ME - The St. Joe's Field Hockey team hosted the Plymouth State University Panthers in an ECAC Semifinal match on Saturday and came out victorious, 1-0. Saint Joseph's College FY goalkeeper Kathleen "Kat" Simoes (Wakefield, MA) continued her exceptional play in net, posting the shutout behind a strong defensive corps. The #5 Monks advance to the ECAC Championship game to be played tomorrow at #2 Bridgewater State College.

SO Jillian Kimball (Albany Township, ME/Telstar HS) scored the only goal the Monks would need in the 38th minute, taking a rebound off the stick of teammate SO Jessica Baker(Scarborough, ME).

As the first half got under way, it seemed like the game would be a defensive struggle, as each team's defense held strong.

On multiple occasions the Panthers would storm down field, only to be held back by the strong defense of the Monks. JR Lauren Snow (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) led the Monks "D" in keeping the Panther forwards at bay. St. Joe's SO Kimberly Glynn (Danvers, MA) made some tough blocks to help out her keeper, "Kat" Simoes, who made an amazing save on a shot by Panther Courtney Colligan, which appeared to be a sure goal late in the first half.

With the victory, the #5 Monks continue to make history and advance to the ECAC Championship game to take on #2 Bridgewater State College (15-6) in Bridgewater, MA on Sunday 11/11 at 1:00 PM. St. Joe's record now stands at 14-6. Plymouth State ends their season, 13-7.
