STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's Head Field Hockey Coach
Rupert Lewis stands alone atop
the program's win list with 27 career victories after posting a key
4-2 conference triumph over Castleton State on Sunday, October
5th.
Lewis, in his fourth season at the helm, is the sixth coach in the
fourteen-year history of the field hockey program. Melissa Emery
Ela previously held the record and coached the Lady Monks to a
26-26 record in three seasons (1998-2000). In his first three
years, Lewis saw his team improve from one victory in his first
year, to six in his second and a program-best 14 last season.
A native of Jamaica and University of Southern Maine graduate
('84), Lewis guided the 2007 St. Joe's squad to a 14-7 record and
the first ECAC D III Championship Tournament berth in program
history. The '07 Lady Monks set six team records including wins
(14), winning percentage (66.6%), consecutive wins (6), goals
scored (55), assists (43), points (153) and total shutouts (3).
The 2008 club currently is 6-2 overall and 2-1 in North Atlantic
Conference play, the team's first year in the league after holding
NCAA D III Independent status for the last six seasons.
