BOSTON, MA - Six different Lady
Monks scored as Saint Joseph's (5-1, 1-0 NAC) defeated
non-conference opponent Wheelock College (1-7) on Wednesday
evening, 9-1. Gina Gaetani '09
(Auburn, ME) scored three goals, Julia
Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY) netted a pair of goals
and added two assists and Kayla
Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) added a goal and four
assists in the blowout victory. Sarah
Bartell '12 (Exeter, NH) chipped in with a goal
and two assists while Kelly
Emerson '09 (Vassalboro, ME) and
Amanda Sebastiao '12 (Uxbridge,
MA) scored a goal apiece in the triumph.
Ostrowski, needing just one point to break the
career scoring mark at St. Joe's, scored six points in the game to
give her 64 for a career. The junior forward passes
Jen Marsh (Enfield, NH), who
scored 58 points in two seasons (1999-00), to attain the all-time
mark. Ostrowski needs just three goals to capture
the career goals record (23), which is currently held by Marsh.
Gaetani opened the game scoring in the 14th minute
on a pass from Nowell to notch her third goal of
the season and put her team on top, 1-0. Wheelock answered barely
three minutes later with a tally from Jill Chaffee to knot the game
at one apiece.
The Lady Monks answered with eight unanswered goals, starting with
Bartell's second marker of the year, unassisted,
in the 33rd minute. Bartell registered an assist
on the next SJC goal, scored by Nowell, her
team-leading ninth of the season, two minutes later to give the
Royal Blue a 3-1 lead going into the break.
Ostrowski struck for the historic goal at the
36:07 mark on a pass from Nowell and added another
tally two minutes later, the assist going to
Gaetani, to lift the SJC lead to 5-1.
Not to be outdone, Gaetani sandwiched an
Emerson goal, her fourth of the year on a pass
from Ostrowski at the 42:57 mark, with two goals of her own to post
a hat trick effort in the non-conference contest.
Sebastiao added her second goal of the season, the
assist going to Bartell, in the 57th minute to cap
the game scoring with the Royal Blue on top, 9-1.
Wheelock goalkeeper Meredith Race posted 23 saves in the losing
bid. St. Joe's outshot the Wildcats 33-2 and held a 9-4 edge in
penalty corners.
Saint Joseph's will travel to Bangor, ME to face off against NAC
rival Husson University on Saturday, September 27th at 1:00 PM.
