STANDISH, ME - Kayla
Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) tallied a pair of goals
and an assist and Julia Ostrowski
'10 (Albany, NY) registered a goal and an assist as the Monks (4-0,
1-0 NAC) defeated the Terriers of Thomas College (1-3, 0-1), 4-0,
in a North Atlantic Conference opener at Lakeside Field on Saturday
afternoon.
St. Joe's recorded 14 shots, 11 on net, and held Thomas without a
shot in the victory. Thomas keeper Megan Denby '11 (Copiague, NY)
made 7 saves for the Terriers.
The Monks wasted little time getting on the board, as
Nowell notched her first marker of the afternoon
in the fourth minute off a penalty corner set by
Ostrowski.
The Terriers nearly went into intermission with a one-goal deficit,
but Jordan Dumont's '13
(Shapleigh, ME) goal - the first of her collegiate career - at the
34:59 mark of the first half put the Monks up 2-0.
Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, ME)
recorded an assist on the play.
Saint Joseph's put the game away with two goals in the first 13
minutes of the second stanza. Nowell added her
second of the game - and seventh of the fall - off a
Kerrie Boutin '10 (Georgetown,
MA) pass at the 45:14 mark and collected an assist on
Ostrowski's score three minutes later to make it a
4-0 game.
St. Joe's will play at Colby College on Wednesday, September 23rd
at 3:30 PM while Thomas is set to host Plymouth State on Sunday at
2:00 PM.
