Celata and Astbury Garner GNAC Weekly Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College field hockey players have earned accolades.

Junior Amanda Celata (Dedham, Mass.) has been honored as the GNAC Player of the Week and sophomore Emma Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.) has been named as the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week for the reporting period ending November 2nd.

Celata netted both of the Monks' markers in a 2-1 road victory over Plymouth State University last Tuesday. The victory over the Panthers, who are currently second in the Little East Conference standings, ranks as one of the most important non-conference wins for the Monks this fall.

For Celata, who ranks third on the team in goals (6) and fourth in points (16) this season, the GNAC Player of the Week honor is the first of her career. She also claimed a pair of North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week accolades during her freshman season (2012).

Astbury made a career-high eight stops to help lead the Monks to the triumph over the Panthers on Tuesday. The GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week award is a career-first for Astbury, who is 13-2 with a conference-best 0.85 goals-against average and five shutouts this fall.

Saint Joseph's (14-2, 6-0 GNAC), the top seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host #4 Anna Maria College in a GNAC Semifinal matchup on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
