Monks Defeat Terriers, Improve to 2-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-0) defeated Thomas College (0-3), 3-1, in a non-conference field hockey contest on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks kicked off the game scoring at the 6:04 mark when junior Cailin Seavey (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) netted her first collegiate goal. Sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) played a hand in each of the next two SJC strikes, as the second-year midfielder assisted on a Meghan Hill goal in the 17th minute and punched home her first NCAA tally with eight seconds left in the second quarter.

The Terriers spoiled the Monks' shutout effort in the 53rd minute when Britney Gregoire scored an unassisted goal to account for the 3-1 final.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held sizeable leads in shots (17-7), shots on goal (8-3), and penalty corners (10-6) in the triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made two saves in the win while Thomas netminder Brennan Pinto turned away five of the eight shots she faced in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With tonight's result the Monks improve to 19-9 all-time versus Thomas College and have now defeated the Terriers in 15-consecutive meetings, a streak that began during the 2007 campaign.

NEXT!

In a rematch of a 2019 NCAA Tournament first round matchup, the Monks will play at Babson College on Saturday at 12:00 PM. Babson defeated St. Joe's, 2-0, in the first round contest in Babson Park, Mass. on November 13th, 2019.
