Monks Topple Pride, 6-0

WESTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (6-1, 2-0 GNAC) toppled Regis College (0-4, 0-3 GNAC), 6-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks kicked off the GNAC matchup with three goals in the first quarter, as freshman Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine), senior Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine), and junior Megan Quirion (Oakland, Maine) found the back of the cage to put the game well out of reach early.

With her goal at the 10:27 mark of the first quarter, Rutledge became just the fourth player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau for their career. The senior standout has recorded 102 points, with 38 goals and 26 assists, in 51 games and joins Libby Pomerleau '20, Kayla Nowell '11, and Julia Ostrowski '10 on the short list.

St. Joe's tacked on single goals in each of the next three quarters, as sophomore Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) hit pay dirt in the second and third frames and senior Alexis Beardsley (Livermore, Maine) capped the scoring with her second tally of the year in the fourth period.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's dominated the stat sheet, holding a 48-0 lead in shots with a 21-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 25-1 cushion in penalty corners.

THE KEEPERS:

The Monks employed four goalkeepers – one each quarter - in the victory with sophomore Riley Kiernan (Waltham, Mass.) picking up the victory and senior Isabella Anton (Mont Vernon, N.H.), sophomore Heather Rohr (Merrimack, N.H.), and freshman Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) logging 15 minutes apiece.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 9-4 all-time versus Regis College and has defeated the Pride in seven-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2006 campaign.

The Monks will play at Colby College on Wednesday in a non-conference contest slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
