Gutowski Hat Trick Lifts Monks Past Raiders, 6-0

STANDISH, Maine – Senior forward Alexa Gutowski (North Conway, N.H.) scored three goals to help propel Saint Joseph's College (3-1, 1-0 GNAC) past Rivier University (1-2, 1-1 GNAC), 6-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest held at the SJC Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Senior forward Megan Quirion (Oakland, Maine) put the hosts on the board at the 7:27 mark of the first quarter with her first goal of the season and Gutowski hit pay dirt five minutes later to lift the Royal Blue to a 2-0 cushion heading into the second frame.

Quirion netted her second tally of the game off a Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) feed in the 22nd minute of play and the 3-0 score held until the fourth quarter, when Gutowski potted a pair and Waryas added her third goal of the year to account for the 6-0 final.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (35-0), shots on goal (20-0), and penalty corners (15-1) in the lopsided victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Rivier netminder Olivia Boucher made 13 saves in the loss while SJC sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) was untested in the shutout performance.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's remains undefeated with a perfect 13-0 all-time record versus Rivier University.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host Thomas College on Wednesday in a non-conference tilt slated to start at 5:00 PM.
