#8 Kean Defeats Saint Joseph’s, 4-0

STANDISH, Maine - #8 Kean University (6-1) blanked Saint Joseph's College (6-3), 4-0, in a non-conference field hockey matchup on Sunday afternoon. SJC sophomore goalkeeper Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made a career-high 25 saves in the setback.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Senior Peyton Mann (Nazareth, Pa.) scored all four goals for the Cougars, who entered today's contest ranked eighth nationally in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Poll.

The Monks held the high-octane offense off the board until the 29th minute, when Mann pocketed her first marker of the contest shortly after the hosts went down a player on a green card.

Mann hit pay dirt again during a penalty corner scuffle at the 37:14 mark and the senior standout put the game out of reach with two goals in a matter of 25 seconds early in the fourth frame.

TEAM STATS:

Kean held considerable advantages in shots (42-2), shots on goal (29-1) and penalty corners (12-2) in the non-conference victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Collins turned in a remarkable performance and came within one save of tying the Monks' single-game record, which was set when Laura Lombardi '02 made 26 stops in a loss to Stonehill on September 13th, 1998. Her save total in today's contest rank as the second most in team history and the highest tally since Meaghan Johnson '12 made 20 saves against Castleton on October 3rd, 2010.

Kean employed three different goalies in the victory, as senior starter Jenna Flemings (Tabernacle, N.J.), senior Belly Reynoso (Manalapan, N.J.), and Azure Jones (Rosendale, N.Y.) were rarely tested in the combined shutout performance. Reynoso turned away the only shot she faced – an Alexa Gutowski (North Conway, N.H.) attempt in the 56th minute.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With today's loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 2-7 all-time versus Kean University. The Monks last defeated the Cougars on September 16th, 2018.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host Regis College on Wednesday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at 6:00 PM.
