Waryas Garners NFHCA Second Team All-Region Honors

GENEVA, N.Y. — The 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-Region teams have been announced and Saint Joseph's College freshman Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) has earned Region I Second Team accolades.

Waryas registered one of the finest rookie seasons in the history of the Saint Joseph's field hockey program as the first year forward netted 23 goals with three assists for 49 total points along with six game-winning tallies in 2022. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-GNAC honoree established a new single-season goals record, breaking the 22-goal mark previously held by Libby Pomerleau '20, and her points tally is tied for the fourth highest in team history.

Waryas is one of just six GNAC players to earn All-Region honors as she joins Jillian Miele (Johnson & Wales), Aoife Daly (Colby-Sawyer), Sydney Gonyea (Simmons), Aleah Murph (Colby-Sawyer), and Lily Stark (Lasell) on the short list of NFHCA honorees.

This year over 190 Division III student-athletes have been named to NFHCA Division III All-Region teams sponsored by The LineUp. Division III teams are separated into six regions: Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV, Region V, and Region VI — each region honors up to 16 student-athletes on a first team and up to 16 student-athletes on a second team.

Led by 18th-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis, the Monks posted an 11-9 overall record with an 8-3 mark in conference play. As the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament, St. Joe's hosted #6 Lasell University in quarterfinal action on October 29th and suffered a season-ending 2-1 loss in double overtime at the SJC Athletics Complex.
