STANDISH, Maine – The 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams have been announced and Saint Joseph's College field hockey players Molly McCluskey (Orono, Maine), Anna Walker (Scarborough, Maine), and Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) have claimed the high academic honor.
To be nominated for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games/events. Student-athletes are not eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
McCluskey, a Nursing major, was a two-year starting midfielder for the Monks and earned All-Conference honors after registering career-highs in goals (4), assists (15), points (23), shots (47), and shots on goal (27) during her breakout senior season.
Walker, also a Nursing major, started all 20 games as a member of the Monks' backline and posted three defensive saves during her senior season. In February, she claimed CSC Academic All-District® honors as a member of the SJC swimming program and is the only St. Joe's athlete to take home a pair of CSC academic accolades during the 2022-23 academic year.
A Biology/Pre-PA major, Collins is a two-year starting goalkeeper for the Monks and has amassed a 20-11 record with a 1.62 goals against average, a .769 save percentage, and 170 saves in 1,885 minutes between the posts during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
The CSC Academic All-District® At-Large program recognizes athletes from 22 different sports, including men's and women's programs for fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, water polo as well as men's volleyball, men's wrestling, women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, field hockey, and women's rowing.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's & Women's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Seven other SJC athletes have claimed Academic All-District accolades within the Men's & Women's At-Large program: men's lacrosse players Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) and Ethan Richard (Litchfield, Maine) and Anthony Samiotes (Hampstead, N.H.) golfers Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine) and Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine), and women's lacrosse players Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) and senior Tara Powers (Tyngsboro, Mass.).
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 21. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed at the link below.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
