Monks Cruise Past Blazers, 4-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-5, 5-2 GNAC) blanked Elms College (0-12, 0-7 GNAC), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sophomore Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) opened the scoring netted her second goal of the season with a shot just in front of the cage off a pass from classmate Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) in the 24th minute.

Waryas sandwiched halftime with tallies in the 29th and 35th minutes and junior Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine), who assisted on the first Waryas goal, capped the scoring when she deflected a Waryas shot at the 34:52 mark.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (39-1), shots on goal (25-0), and penalty corners (15-1) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's split time in the net as junior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) was untested in the first half and freshman Kim McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) did not face a shot in the second stanza. Elms sophomore Kaitlyn Lynes (South Hadley, Mass.) kept her team in the game by making 21 stops in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 3-0 in the history of the series with Elms College.

Saint Joseph's is back in action tomorrow with a 1:00 PM non-conference game at #2 Babson College.
