SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The Saint Joseph's golf team participated
in the Southern Maine Cup on Friday and tallied 241 strokes to earn
a third-place finish. The SJC pair of Andy
LeConte '09 (York, ME) and Steve
Sands '10 (Westbrook, ME) combined to post 73
strokes and placed fifth in the scramble event.
The Southern Maine Cup, played at Sable Oaks Golf Course in South
Portland, features pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball
followed by six holes of scramble format, and finally six holes of
alternate shot golf.
Senior Brent Profenno (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Matt Reid
(Portland, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) combined to shoot an even par 70
to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a first-place
finish.
The University of New England placed second in the four-team event
with a score of 235, followed by St. Joseph's College (Maine) with
a 241. The University of Maine at Farmington rounded out the
scoring in fourth place with a score of 256. UNE's Shawn Pabst and
Sean Caddigan turned in the second best round of the day carding a
72.
Saint Joseph's returns to the links on Sunday when the team
participates in the two-day Husson Fall Invitational played at the
Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, ME. Opening tee time on
Sunday is scheduled for 11:00 AM and set for 8:00 AM on Monday.
