Golf Finishes Fourth in 2011 USM Cup

GORHAM, ME – The Saint Joseph's College golf team placed fourth with a 233 team card in the Southern Maine Cup at the Gorham Country Club on Friday.

Played on an annual basis, the Southern Maine Cup features pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball, followed by six holes of scramble format and finally six holes of alternate shot golf. 

All three of the Huskies' pairs – Nick Mullins/Brett Kapteina, Leo Paquette/Josh Hogan and John Gagliano/Cody Berkowitz - shot an even-par 71 to help the host team collect a first-place finish with a 213 card.

For the Monks, Kevin Richardson '14 (Coventry, Conn.) and Jake Brown '13 (Lewiston, Maine) combined for a 72 card, T.J. Garske '12 (Federal Way, Wash.) and Colin Finn '14 (North Easton, Mass.) shot a 79, and the pairing of Jeff Hilton '13 (Limington, Maine) and Kyle Bennett '12 (Yarmouth, Maine) posted an 82.

The UNE tandem of sophomore Mathew Brown and freshman Jared Melman turned in the low-round total scoring a three-under par 68 to lead the Nor'easters.

University of New England (221), University of Maine-Farmington (229) and Saint Joseph's (233) rounded out the participating programs.

St. Joe's will compete in the University of New England Invitational at the Arundel Country Club on Monday at 9:00 AM.
