Monks Place Second at Southern Maine Tri-Match

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College opened the 2022 season with an appearance in the Southern Maine Tri-Match at Riverside Golf Course on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine) earned Medalist honors after shooting a one-under par 71 and the Monks placed second overall with a 314 team card.

University of Southern Maine claimed the team title with a 313 cumulative score while UMaine-Farmington placed third with a 342 score.

Mathieu finished atop the field and was two strokes ahead of the runner-up finisher, senior teammate Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine), who kicked off his final collegiate campaign with a 73 card. Senior Sean McDonough (Concord, N.H.) was ninth (82), sophomore Alex Beecher (South Portland, Maine) finished 14th (88), and first-year Dante Ceppetelli (Dover, N.H.) placed 17th (92). 

Saint Joseph's will host the 19th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at the Point Sebago Golf Resort on Thursday, September 8th. The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.
