BREWSTER, Mass. - Saint Joseph's College placed 17th with a 652 (325-327) team score in the 87th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, which was held at The Captains Course over the weekend.
Senior Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine) paced the Monks and finished tied for 13th overall with a 148 (72-76) card, the lowest score ever posted by an SJC golfer in the annual New England Championship event. The previous low of 150 was posted by Michael Caron '17 in the 2013 NEIGA Championship.
The impressive effort caps an incredible fall season for Flanagan, who in 13 rounds did not post a score higher than 78 and registered a 75.4 round average, the fifth lowest in program history, while notching four Medalist honors as a senior.
Sophomore Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine) tied for 63rd (160, 81-79), sophomore Devin Coonradt (Methuen, Mass.) tied for 94th (171, 83-88), and second-year Alex Beecher (South Portland, Maine) finished in a tie for 96th (173, 89-84). Senior Sean McDonough (Concord, N.H.) rounded out the SJC quintet with a 179 (90-89) card and tied for 106th.
#15 Babson College claimed the NEIGA title for the fourth consecutive season with a three over-par 579 (286-293) team score, nine shots ahead of runner-up Middlebury College. Amherst College came in third at 597, while Tufts University and Williams College tied for fourth place at 601.
Middlebury's Sean McGarrity claimed Medalist honors with a three under-par 141 (72-69) card.
Saint Joseph's, the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champions, earned an automatic qualifier to the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be played at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky starting on May 16th. Head Coach Jason Riley '16 is working to finalize the Monks' 2023 spring schedule in preparation for the team's national tourney appearance.
