AUBURN, Maine – Saint Joseph's College swept a USCSA Reynolds Division slalom race at Lost Valley on Saturday, as the SJC women posted eight place points and a 3:16.37 composite time and the Monks' men notched eight points and a 2:56.63 total time.
The Reynolds Division held a Mental Health Awareness event at today's race and set up a GOFUNDME page to support the Tree Street Youth organization in Lewiston. Their mission is to "encourage leadership, learning, exploration, and growth" through a no-cost afterschool program. Please consider donating to this worthy cause!
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
The Monks featured the top two finishers to earn their fourth team victory of the season, as senior seniors Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) and Caleb Gorton (Goffstown, N.H.) placed first and second with 58.13 and 58.81 times, respectively. UMaine-Farmington placed second with 13 points (2:58.04), Colby was third (3:07.33), Bowdoin was fourth (46 pts, 3:15.93), UMaine-Orono finished fifth (54 pts, 3:25.19), New England College was sixth (62 pts, 3:34.80), and Bates placed seventh (135 pts, 4:11.55)
Colby's Jack AbuHaidar placed third with a 59.00 time.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Strobeck earned his third individual victory of the season with a 58.13 (28.55, 29.58) time
- Gorton posted the first second-place finish of his career with a 58.81 (29.41, 29.40) effort
- Junior Jacob Morris (Woodstock, N.H.) was sixth (59.69, 29.60 / 30.09)
- Sophomore Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.) was ninth (1:01.07, 30.46 / 30.61)
- Freshman Charlie Pye (Rangeley, Maine) placed 12th (1:02.20, 30.79 / 31.41)
- Sophomore Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) finished 28th (1:10.85, 41.55 / 29.30)
- Sophomore Jacob Gilmore (Naples, Maine) was 36th (1:18.19, 38.90 / 39.29)
- Sophomore Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) posted a DNF on the first run and a 29.66 (fifth-fastest) time on the second
- Freshman Sam Plummer (Raymond, Maine) was disqualified on the first trek and posted a 32.91 time on the second stint
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
Saint Joseph's placed three of the top five finishers, as junior Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) placed second (1:04.73), senior Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) finished fourth (1:05.62), and senior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) was fifth (1:07.76) to help the Monks notch their third victory of the season.
Colby was second, UMaine-Farmington placed third (15 pts, 3:23.96), New England College was fourth (55 pts, 3:48.74), Bowdoin finished fifth (53 pts, 3:48.98), UMaine-Orono was sixth (53 pts, 3:52.57), and Bates placed seventh (114 pts, 4:30.13).
Colby's Parker Crawford won the race with a 1:04.61 time and UMF's Hokulani Caroselli wrapped up the podium with a third-place finish (1:05.27).
FOR THE MONKS:
- Zordan placed second with a 1:04.73 (32.60, 32.13) time
- Irvin was fourth with a 1:05.62 (32.12, 33.50) performance
- Pingree finished fifth with a 1:06.02 (32.47, 33.55) effort
- Sophomore Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) placed seventh (1:07.76, 33.40 / 34.36)
- Senior Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine) finished 11th (1:09.97, 34.47 / 35.50)
- Freshman Hannah Golden (Concord, N.H.) was 12th (1:10.00, 34.91 / 35.09)
- Junior Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine) was 16th (1:12.94, 36.14 / 36.80)
- Freshman Lily Anctil (Greene, Maine) finished 18th (1:13.76, 36.56 / 37.20)
- Freshman Meghan Cyr (Hampden, Maine) placed 20th (1:15.31, 37.83 / 37.48)
