Boston, MA - The Great Northeast Athletic
Conference announced the 2007 men's basketball all-conference team
today . Regular season champion Emerson placed three players on the
15 man team and claimed three of the individual awards. Sophomore
guard Jeremy Shannon was selected first team, and voted as both the
Player and Defensive Player of the year. Joining Shannon were
second team selection senior forward Ben Chase and third team pick
senior guard Will Dawkins. Emerson coach Hank Smith was named Coach
of the Year. Forward Chris Hanson of Daniel Webster, who led the
league in three point shooting was selected Rookie of the Year.
Joining Shannon on the first team were guards Rob Williams-Hinton
of Emmanuel and Japhet Kerr of Johnson & Wales, along with
center Jose Guitian of Lasell, the conference's leading rebounder
with 11.8 per game and senior forward Jeff Carpenter of Rivier who
finished his career as the GNAC's only men's player to score 1,000
points and pull down 1,000 rebounds.
Second team selections, in addition to Chase, were Mack Spellman of
Emmanuel, Greg Samuels of Johnson & Wales, Jaime Crawford of
Lasell, who led the conference in scoring at 21.6ppg and field goal
percentage with .599, and Elbie
Murphy of Saint Joseph's (ME).
Overall this season Murphy is averaging 16.0
points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.2 blocks per
game for the 14-12 Monks. He was named as the GNAC Men's Basketball
Player of the Week twice (1/15, 2/11) and became the 29th SJC Men's
Basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone on January
26th, 2008 in a win over conference opponent Albertus Magnus
College. Murphy ranked 12th in NCAA Division III
in steals per game and 8th in the conference in scoring.
Along with Dawkins, the third team consisted of Tirone McCray of
Johnson & Wales, Dwayne Powell of Lasell, Jerrold Williams of
Norwich and Raymond Eatmon of
Saint Joseph's (ME).

and 20th in points per game. Eatmon was the second
most efficient shooter in the conference with a .580 (116-200)
field goal percentage. The mark also ranked 34th among all NCAA
Division III men's basketball players in 2007-08. The sophomore was
named the GNAC Player of the Week on December 10th after tallying
