NASHUA, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (11-9, 7-2 GNAC) defeated Rivier University (12-8, 4-6 GNAC), 79-57, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball contest on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks dominated the opening 20 minutes to the tune of a 51.4% (19-37) shooting percentage, which resulted in 47 first-half points, a season-high. Holding a 24-17 advantage with 8:15 left in the opening period, St. Joe's headed into intermission with a 21-point (47-26) cushion after sophomore guard John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) hit a trio of three-pointers during a 23-9 run.
Saint Joseph's led by at least 15 points for the remainder of the contest, including a game-high 25-point (74-49) advantage after Frazier made a layup with 2:33 left.
STATS OF THE GAME:
The Monks capped the contest with a 45.6% (31-68) field goal percentage while the Raiders shot 32.9% (23-70) from the field…Saint Joseph's turned a 57-26 advantage in rebounds to a 42-20 lead in points in the paint.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Frazier netted 21 points on 5-of-12 three-point shooting and pulled down four rebounds in the victory
- Sophomore forward Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals
- Grad Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) scored nine points with 12 boards
- Freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) tallied seven points, nine caroms, and two assists
- Junior guard Teagan Hynes (York, Maine) contributed seven points, four assists, and three boards
- Freshman guard Kolbyn Dunphe (Westbrook, Maine) grabbed 11 rebounds – including six on the offensive end – with eight points and three assists
- Freshman forward Pitia Donato (Portland, Maine) added five points and seven caroms
LEADERS – RIVIER:
- Devin Owens led the Raiders with 15 points and three steals
- Odarius Cade tallied 14 points, three boards, three assists, and a pair of steals
- Nikolas Pignone came off the bench to score eight points with four rebounds
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win Saint Joseph's improves to 27-5 in the history of the series with Rivier University and has now defeated the Raiders in three-consecutive meetings.
