St. Joe’s Wins Big at Dean, 106-68

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (16-9, 12-2 GNAC) closed out the 2023-24 regular season with a convincing 106-68 victory at Dean College (9-16, 5-9 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball contest on Saturday on Saturday afternoon. The Monks head into the postseason on a nine-game winning streak and have clinched the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Dean opened the game on a 6-0 spurt before St. Joe's countered with an 8-0 outbreak to claim a two-point edge on an Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) jumper with 14:36 left in the first half. The conference foes swapped the lead four times over the following three minutes before the Monks went on a tear, outscoring the Bulldogs by a 39-12 margin during the remainder of the half en route to leading 51-25 advantage at the break.

St. Joe's held at least a 30-point lead for the majority of the second stanza and reached the 100-point plateau for the first time this season when sophomore Ben Seiler (Enfield, N.H.) connected on a three to make it a 101-66 game with 1:43 left.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's shot a season-best 54.4% (43-79) from the field, the team's top mark since shooting 63.2% (36-57) against Colby on November 11, 2022…The Monks scored 25 points on 17 Bulldog turnovers while committing just seven miscues…St. Joe's also held a 54-22 lead in points in the paint.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore guard John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) netted 20 points with five rebounds and two assists
  • Freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) notched a double-double with 19 point and 15 rebounds and added four assists
  • Abbott scored 16 points with seven boards and five assists
  • Seiler came off the bench to net 14 points in 13 minutes off a 4-for-5 three-point shooting effort

LEADERS – DEAN:

  • AJ Weston led the Bulldogs with 16 points and added four assists with three caroms
  • Jayden Madise tallied 11 points and 15 rebounds
  • Moussa Berete chipped in with 12 points and a pair of boards

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 3-0 all-time versus Dean College.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's, the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host a conference quarterfinal on Tuesday against #6 Emmanuel College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
