Lasers Clip Monks, 10-6

NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell University (7-5, 6-0 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (3-9, 1-4 GNAC), 10-6, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse contest on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SJC sophomore Timothy Goodfellow (Wayland, Mass.) lifted the Monks to a 1-0 lead with his 28th goal of the season at the 6:55 mark of the first quarter and his second marker of the game, scored with 10:05 left in the second stanza, gave the visitors a 3-2 edge. The Lasers proceeded to net four of the subsequent five goals and held a 6-4 cushion heading into intermission.

Junior Noah Tierney-Honan (Dracut, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal 58 seconds into the third quarter to make it a 6-5 game, but Lasell followed a similar script to that of the second period by punching home four unanswered goals during the remainder of the third and first half of the fourth frame to put the game out of reach.

TEAM STATS:

Lasell held the lead in shots (37-31), shots on goal (24-13), ground balls (40-28), face-offs (12-6) and caused turnovers (14-9) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior starter Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) made eight saves in 45 minutes of play and freshman Ryan Boutiette (Burrillville, R.I.) turned away six of the seven shots he faced in the fourth quarter.

Lasell goalie Alex Beauchemin made seven saves in the winning effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Tierney-Honan scored two goals and picked up a pair of ground balls
  • Goodfellow added two goals on six shots
  • Freshman Will Levesque (Marlow, N.H.) and junior Zavier Balzano (Otisfield, Maine) added a goal apiece
  • Junior Connor Bogdanski (Southington, Conn.) scooped up five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Adam Enscoe (Rochester, N.H.) won six of 11 face-off attempts

LEADERS – LASELL:

  • Landon Reyes registered a hat trick in the victory
  • Bash Cunningham scored two goals with an assist and a pair of ground balls
  • James Anderson produced a goal with two assists and four ground balls
  • Steven Phelps was 12-for-18 on face-off attempts and picked up seven ground balls
  • Tyler Rose tallied seven ground balls and five caused turnovers
