Johnson & Gilvey Honored by Conference

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has released the final weekly swimming honors of the 2013-14 campaign and a pair of Saint Joseph's College men's swimmers have earned accolades.

Freshman Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) and sophomore Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) have both been listed on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship last weekend.

Johnson advanced to the finals in three NEISDA events and broke program records in the 100-Fly (56.35) and 100-IM (58.57) prelims. The freshman placed sixth in the 100-IM (58.75) and tallied 20 individual points for the Monks over the weekend. Johnson also swam legs for four different SJC relay teams, including the 200-Free relay quartet that broke the team record with a 1:33.69 time in the prelims and finished eighth in the finals with a 1:34.06 performance.

Gilvey recorded a trio of top-10 finishes and posted a team-high 37 individual points in the NEISDA Championship over the weekend. The sophomore standout placed fourth with a new program-record 2:02.48 effort in the 200-Back and also notched eighth-place efforts in the 100-Back (56.22) and 50-Back (26.74) races in the three-day event. Gilvey also swam legs for four different SJC relay teams, including the 200-Free relay quartet that broke the team record with a 1:33.69 time in the prelims and finished eighth in the finals with a 1:34.06 performance.
