Monks Open Season Versus Husson University

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's and women's swim teams kicked off the 2022-23 season with a head-to-head meet with Husson University at the Harold Alfond Center Pool on Saturday afternoon. The SJC women won every individual event except for two races and suffered a narrow 99-89 loss while the Husson men posted a 149-21 triumph.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Junior Brooke Podsiadlo (Granby, Mass.) won the 50-Free (28.08) and 100-Free (1:01.76) events and placed second in the 1000-Free (12:56.57)
  • Sophomore Tiffany Twombly (Sanford, Maine) placed first in the 200-IM (2:33.43), 100-Back (1:10.44), and 100-Breast (1:16.61) races
  • Sophomore Kiley Matthews (South Portland, Maine) won the 200-Free (2:11.05) and 500-Free (6:21.72) events and placed third in the 100-Fly (1:10.30)
  • Freshman Elise Soucy (Saco, Maine) was second in the 50-Free (29.30), third in the 100-Back (1:13.59), and fourth in the 100-Breast (1:30.77)
  • Junior Ashley Thompson (Granby, Conn.) placed fourth in the 200-IM (3:09.55) and 100-Breast (1:30.77) races and fifth in the 100-Free (1:20.16) and 100-Breast (1:31.21) events
  • First-year Emma Westgate (Sanford, Maine) finished third in the 500-Free (7:39.94), fourth in the 100-Fly (1:38.07), and fifth in the 50-Free (34.20)

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Freshman Lucas Fendl (Ellsworth, Maine) won the 50-Free (24.05) and was second in the 100-Fly (1:00.62)
  • Junior Shawn Perry (Plaistow, N.H.) finished second in the 200-IM (2:23.14), third in the 500-Free (6:06.22), and fifth in the 100-Fly (1:14.79)

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday with an appearance in the Husson Relay Carnival.
