Monks Kick off 2021-22 Season at USM

GORHAM, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened the 2021-22 season with an appearance in the University of Southern Maine Invitational #1, a non-scoring event, on Saturday.

Senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine), in his first season with the Monks, highlighted the event by breaking a pair of team records. Benson shattered the SJC triple jump record with a 12.73m performance (former mark was 12.30m) and topped the former long jump mark of 6.11m with a 6.54m effort. Both records were previously held by Lance Santeusanio III '21.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Benson won the Triple Jump (12.73m), was third in the Long Jump (6.54m), and sixth in the 55-Meter Dash (6.78)
  • Sophomore Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) won the 400-Meter Dash with a 51.84 effort and finished fourth in the 200-Meter Dash (23.76)
  • Senior Tyler Nadeau (Farmingdale, Maine) was the top finisher in the 600-Meter Run (1:29.50)
  • Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) was second in the 1000-Meter Run (2:47.27) and seventh in the 1-Mile Run (4:42.37)
  • Freshman Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) finished third in the 1000-Meter Run (2:50.10)
  • Junior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) was fifth in the 3000-Meter Run (10:35.64)
  • Senior Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) placed sixth in the 600-Meter Run (1:46.02)
  • Sophomore Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) finished seventh in the 800-Meter Run (2:17.28)
  • Freshman Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) was eighth in the 800-Meter Run (2:17.38)

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Senior Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) placed second in the 600-Meter Run (1:54.91)
  • Senior Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) was second in the 3000-Meter Run (12:40.67)
  • Senior Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) finished fourth in the 1000-Meter Run (3:42.93)
  • Freshman Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) placed sixth in the 55-Meter Dash (7.97)
  • Junior Caitlin Kendrick (Richmond, Maine) finished third in the 3000-Meter Run (12:41.14) and sixth in the 1-Mile Run (6:04.99)
  • Sophomore Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) finished seventh in the Triple Jump (8.67m) and eighth in the Weight Throw (9.67m)
  • Junior Piper Wetherby (Berwick, Maine) was 10th in the Weight Throw (8.95m)
