Men's 4x400 Meter Relay Wins Maine State Championship Title

­GORHAM, MAINE – Saint Joseph's College Men's Indoor Track and Field traveled to Southern Maine on Saturday for the 2024 Maine State Championships. Out of the eight-team contest, the Bears of Bowdoin took home the team title with 227 points. Last year's champions, the Bobcats of Bates, finished in behind with 200 points. Southern Maine (92 points), Colby (84 points), Saint Joe's (45 points), Maine-Farmington (22 points), Thomas College (22 points), and Husson (9 points) rounded out the team scores.

With 45 points, the Monks set a new program record for the most points recorded at the Indoor Maine State Championships. The highlight of the meet, for the Monks, came from the record-setting men's 4x400-meter relay squad. Abdirizak Abukar, Tyler Ricker, Ryan Farr, and Jacob Schmader set a new program record with a 3:25.43 effort which also took home the State Championship win to just edge Bowdoin College (3:25.99). Placing third overall, to set another program record, were the men of the 4x800, Younton Doe, Ryan Graham, Griffin Cooney, and Haytham Ramadan (8:23.71). Rookie Youton Doe, was the highest-scoring individual for the Monks with his 51.28 400-meter dash effort placing third overall.

  • Doe, Graham, Cooney, and Ramadan in the 4x800-meter relay (8:23.71)
  • Freshman Ramadan in the 1000-meter run (2:36.85)

 

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Freshman Younton Diamond Doe placed third in the 400-meter dash clocking in at 51.28. With this mark, Doe punched his ticket to the New England Championship.
  • Senior Ryan Farr ran the 200-meter dash for fourth place (22.95).
  • Freshman Jacob Schmader placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a 51.46.
  • Freshman Tudum Monday finished fourth in the Long Jump with a 6.44m (21'1.5")
  • Freshman Haytham Ramadan clocked under the New England Qualifying standard with his 2:36.85 effort to place fifth place
  • Freshman Matthew Corriveau placed sixth in the 400-meter dash crossing the line in 51.70. With this new mark, Corriveau will be joining his fellow teammates on the trip to the New England Championships. He also placed 17th in the Triple Jump (11.10m / 36'5")
  • Sophomore Abdirizak Abukar placed eighth in the 55-meter dash (6.82).
  • Junior Ryan Graham placed ninth in the 800-meter run (2:04.16)
  • Sophomore John McManus clocked a personal best in the 800 with a mark of 2:04.48 (tenth place)
  • Freshman Andrew James placed ninth in the Shot Put with a 12.10m mark. James also placed 19th in the Weight Throw 10.10m
  • Senior Wesley Hundley tied for eighth with his 12.45m (40' 10.25") throw in the Weight Throw. Hundley also placed 11th in the Shot Put (11.52m / 37'9.5")
  • Abukar, Ricker, Farr, and Schmader win 4x400-meter relay with a time 3:25.43
  • Doe, Graham, Cooney, and Ramadan place third in the 4x800-meter relay (8:23.71)

The Monks will take a week off as they prepare for the GNAC Championships at Boston University on February 18th, 2024!
