Saint Joseph's Men Unanimously Picked to Win 2024 GNAC Indoor Championship

WINTHROP, Mass. – The 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with representatives from Colby-Sawyer, Emmanuel, Lasell, Regis, and Saint Joseph's (Maine) competing in the annual championship.

In preparation for Sunday's championship event, the league's five head track & field coaches conducted a Pre-Championship Poll with the Saint Joseph's (Maine) men and the Emmanuel women taking the top spots in the voting.

The Monks' men's squad comes into the 2024 event as the reigning GNAC Champion and was picked as the unanimous favorite, earning 25 points and all five first place votes cast. Last year's runner-up Regis ranked second with 18 points, just narrowly beating out Colby-Sawyer, which received 17 points for third place. Lasell and Emmanuel closed out the men's ledger with 10 and five points, respectively.

Saint Joseph's is on the precipice of putting together a dynastic run in men's track & field and cross country, as the Monks have won three-consecutive championships - 2023 Indoor Track & Field, 2023 Outdoor Track & Field, 2023 Cross Country - during the last calendar year. All three titles were the first in program history for the Monks, and there is no end in sight for the programs' success. Led by a tremendous coaching staff - helmed by Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Mike Burleson - the men's indoor roster is packed with young talent, as the 35-man roster includes 17 freshmen and 10 sophomores.

Freshmen Tudum Monday (Lewiston, Maine), Younton Diamond Doe (Pawtucket, R.I.), and Andrew James (Bar Harbor, Maine) senior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) have combined to earn 13 GNAC weekly honors this season and figure to play prominent roles for the Monks as they look to defend their GNAC Championship from a year ago. Seniors Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.), Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine), Ethan Tardif (Auburn, Maine), and Farr bring considerable experience to the table and look to wrap up their indoor careers on a high note.

Last season, Saint Joseph's College ran away with the 2023 GNAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, as the Monks tallied 168 total points, 40 more than runner-up Regis College, to claim the program's first-ever conference title. Regis placed second with 128 points and Colby-Sawyer College finished third with 104 points while Emmanuel College (44) and Lasell University (41) rounded out the field of competing institutions.

The GNAC Championships will feature 12 scoring events. The event order is available below.
