BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Saint Joseph's College indoor track and field teams brought a small group of "last chance" qualifiers to Bowdoin College on Saturday in hopes to get individuals qualified to compete next weekend at the New England Indoor Regional Championships. The SJC Men finished the day with one new qualifier and the women with two new individual New England qualifiers.
On the women's side, sophomore Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) and freshman Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) both finished well under the 2:28.5 qualifying time. VanDeMoere placing second in the meet ran a 2:24.86 to break her previous set team record from GNACs last week. Kennedy coming in just behind VanDeMoere cruised in at 2:25.05 to place third overall. Dori LeMoine (Swan's Island, Maine) also competed setting a new personal best and school record in the weight throw (11.90m) placing ninth overall. She also threw the shot put to place seventh overall (10.22m). Kaylee Todisco (Wilmington, Mass.) also came back to run the women's 60-Meter dash representing the Monks nicely with a third overall finish (8.21).
For the men, sophomore Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) also placed third overall to run just under the qualifying time, 2:27.00, for the men's mile. Hendricks broke his previously held school record, 4:30.85 finishing in 4:26.88 to buy his ticket to New Englands. Veteran Senior Alex Fitzgerald (Lebanon, Maine) won the men's Triple jump (11.96m) and also placed sixth in the long jump (5.75m). Lance Santeusanio III (North Berwick, Maine) came back after his stellar GNAC performance and placed third in the triple jump (11.57m) and fifth in the high jump (1.80m). Standout sophomore-rookie Tyler Nadeau finished first in the 60-Meter Dash with a 7.49. Ricky Reyes (Worcester, Mass.) also gave the 800 another shot placing 12th (2:09.12).
The Monks now have four individuals going to New Englands. Simon Vinci (Peabody, Mass.) qualified earlier this season in the shot put. This will be the most individual athletes SJC has brought (discluding automatic qualifying relay teams) to the New England Regional Meet. Each individual is the first Monk to compete at New Englands in their qualifying events.
