Women Place Second, Men Third at First-Ever Home Meet

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College outdoor track & field teams competed in their first ever home meet held at the Saint Joseph's College Athletics Complex on Saturday. The SJC women placed second with 150 points while the St. Joe's men finished third with 100 points. The running events were hosted at Saint Joseph's while University of Southern Maine hosted the throwing events.

Five program records were broken in what was the Monks' 2021 outdoor season-opener, as first-year Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) set a new 400 hurdles mark with 1:15.03 time while also setting a new program best in the high jump with a height of 1.55 meters. Sophomore Simon Vinci (Peabody, Mass.) set two new records in the Shot Put (13.06m) and Discus (37.10) and first-year Sean Wedgewood (Porter, Maine) vaulted for a school record of 3.65m in Pole Vault.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Senior Anthony Blatus (Dracut, Mass.) won the Javelin Throw with a soaring mark of 48.54m and finished eighth in the Discus throw with a distance of 27.81m
  • Junior Simon Vinci (Peabody, Mass.) placed first in the Hammer throw (41.08m), first in the discus (37.10), and seventh in the Javelin (29.19m)
  • Junior Jacob Huberdeau (Atkinson, N.H.) finished on top in the 5000m run with a time of 16:50.58 setting the first facility record in this event at Saint Joseph's College.
  • Junior captain Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) got a pair of deuces in his events finishing second in the 1500m (4:20.08) and second in the 5000m run (17:14.84)
  • Freshman Sean Wedgewood (Porter, Maine) placed second in Pole Vault flying over the bar at a height of 3.65m
  • Freshman Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) placed first in the 200m dash (23.21) and fifth in the 100m dash (11.75)
  • Senior captain Michael Mason (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400m dash (54.77) 
  • Sophomore Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) doubled in the 1500m (4:44) and 5000m (18:46) run placing tenth and sixth, respectively
  • Freshman Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.), running in his first ever outdoor meet, placed fifth in the 800m run with a 2:11 finish
  • Freshman Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine) jumped to a fifth-place finish in the long jump (5.52m) and sprinted to an eleventh-place finish in the 200m Dash (24.94) and fourteenth in the 100m dash (12.39)
  • Mason, Carmosino, Rice, and Connor Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished fourth in the 4 x 400 Relay

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Junior Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) was the first athlete to compete on the Saint Joseph's facility track placing first in the 3000m Steeplechase (14:20.57) to start off the meet
  • Freshman Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) flew into a first-place finish gliding over the 400m hurdles (1:15.03) and a second-place finish in the High Jump with a 1.55m mark
  • Sophomore Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) took over the 1500m run placing first with a time of 5:25.15
  • Junior captain Samantha VanDeMoere powered to a second-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:34.70
  • Junior Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) placed second in the 1500m cruising in at a time of 5:41
  • Junior captain Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) placed third in the 1500m fighting the clock to finish with a 5:50
  • Freshman Juune Robertson-McIntire (Belfast, Maine) placed second in the 100m Dash with a time of 13.25
  • Senior Marissa Hoffman (Waterbury, Vt.) placed second in the 400m Hurdles (1:20.93), second in Long Jump (4.57m)
  • Junior Kaylee Todisco (Wilmington, Mass.) ran for a second-place finish in the 200m dash (28.70) and finishing fourth in the 100m (13.70)
  • Freshman Hanna Roy (Auburn, Maine) finished third in the 200m Dash (30.26)
  • Sophomore Kimberly Moulton (Franklin, Mass.) placed eighth in the Javelin throw (22.07m), tenth in the Hammer Throw (23.14m) and ninth in the Discus Throw (22.50m)
  • Senior Cassidy Lee (Sullivan, Maine) placed fourth in the Triple Jump (8.49m) and tenth in the 100m Dash
  • Freshman Katiana Gamache (Gilmanton, N.H.) finished fourth in the Javelin Throw (26.32) and eleventh in the Discus Throw (20.72m)
  • Freshman Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) quadrupled placing fifth in the Triple Jump (8.33m), fifth in the Discus Throw (29.06m), seventh in the Long Jump (3.89m), and fourteenth in the Shot Put (7.28m)
  • Junior captain Julie Unczur ran in the 100m dash (15.55), jumped for a sixth place finish in the Long Jump (4.03m), and two sixteenth finishes in the Hammer Throw (17.69m) and Shot Put (7.03m)
  • Robertson-McIntire, Roy, Todsico, and Hoffman placed first in the 4 x 100 Relay (52.35)
  • VanDeMoere, Roy, Kennedy, and Colson placed first in the 4 x 400 Relay (4:35.02) to end the meet.
