Monks Compete at University of New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. – Traveling down to The University of New Hampshire, The Monks Men's and Women' Track and Field teams competed in the 2022 UNH Season Opener. In this division I populated meet (University of Vermont, University of Maine, and University of New Hampshire) the division III Monks held their own with 18 top-ten men finishers and 17 top ten women finishers.

Two program records fell for the men today while also snagging two more DIII New England Qualifiers. Senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine) qualified in the 100 Meter Dash with an 11.16 which also puts him under the school record mark (11.6, Malcolm Gocha) but due to the 6.4 mph tail wind-aid it will not qualify as a broken school record.  Benson did set a new Long Jump record with his 6.35m jump, replacing his previous record (5.93), creeping closer to the DIII New England Championship qualifying mark (6.55). Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) qualified for DIII New England's with his High Jump effort of 1.90m. Troy Hendricks ended the day with a new 3000m program record (9:31.77) breaking Lucas Fishers '18 9:53 effort (Tufts Snowflake Classic 2015) gaining his 6th Outdoor T&F program record.

With two top five finishers on the lady's side, Brooklyn Goff and Samantha VanDeMoere placed fourth and fifth respectively. Goff placed fourth in the High Jump with a 1.47m mark and VanDeMoere paced in for a 2:36.83 fifth place finish.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Senior Shawn Breen (Ashland, NH) placed third in the 110 Hurdles (20.29W), fifth in the 400 Hurdles (1:17.96), and 10th in the 100 Meter Dash clocking in at 12.79W
  • Senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine) placed third in Long Jump with a 6.35 mark and took fifth in the 100 Meter Dash (11.16W)
  • Sophomore Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine.) placed seventh in the 200 Meter Dash (23.81) and sixth in the 400 Meter Dash with a 54.04 mark
  • Freshman Dylan Dickey (Laconia, N.H.) launched the javelin 44.94m for sixth place
  • Freshman Tyler Ricker (Montpelier, Vt.) paced it out for seventh in the 800 Meter Run (2:19.38)
  • Senior Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) placed eighth in the 800 Meter run (2:43.48)
  • Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) placed ninth in the 3000 Meter Run (9:31.77)
  • Farr, Ricker, Nadeau, Benson sprinted the 4x100 Meter Relay in for a 46.61 fourth place finish
  • Farr, Nadeau, Carmosino, Ricker placed fourth in the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:51.96)

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Sophomore Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) placed fourth in High Jump (1.47m), sixth in the 400 Hurdles (1:18.62) and snagged a sixth-place finish in the 100 Hurdles (17.65W)
  • Senior Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) held her own in the 800 Meter Run placing fifth overall (2:36.83)
  • Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) set yet another personal best this week in the Hammer Throw for a 29.09m effort, placing sixth overall, while also placing sixth overall in Discus (26.55m). O'Brien also launched an 8.15m Shot Put throw for seventh
  • Piper Wetherby (Berwick, Maine) snagged sixth in the Shot Put (8.23m), eighth in the Hammer Throw (28.06m) for a personal best. Wetherby also flung the discus 20.11m for ninth
  • Kimberly Moulton (Franklin, Mass.) earned a pair of eighth place finishes in Shot Put (7.96m) and Discus (20.92m). Moulton also placed seventh in the Hammer Throw (28.45m)
  • Freshman Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) placed seventh in the 100 Meter Dash (13.28W) and 15th in the 200 Meter Dash (29.38W)
  • Todisco, Luiz, Hyndman, Roy teamed up to place fourth in the 4x100 Meter Relay (56.04)
