STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and the Saint Joseph's College men's outdoor track & field program has swept the honors.
For their efforts in the SNHU Spring Invitational on Saturday, sophomore Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, junior Dylan Dickey (Laconia, N.H.) has earned GNAC Field Athlete of the Week honors, and freshman Haytham Ramadan (Khartoum, Sudan) has claimed GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades.
Abukar opened up his outdoor season with an event victory, as the sophomore standout secured first place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.62. He was also part of the Monks' 4x100m relay team that placed second with a time of 43.08.
Dickey produced an impressive heave in the javelin on Saturday, as the junior placed second in the event with a mark of 58.01m (190'4"), the 17th best distance on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List so far this spring. He also competed in the discus, placing eighth with a throw of 34.20m (112'2").
Ramadan set a new program record in the 800m run at the SNHU Spring Invitational, finishing with a third-place time of 1:59.28. He also ran a leg for the Monks' 4x400m relay, which set a program record with a time of 3:25.71.
Saint Joseph's is back at it this weekend with an appearance in the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State University on Saturday.
