Men Place 41st in ECAC Cross Country Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The St. Joe's Men's Cross Country team finished in 41st place with 1130 team points in the ECAC Championship, hosted by Williams College, on Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Allen '10 (Rutland, VT) led the way for the Monks with a 29:52.5 effort to place 135th individually.

Williams won the event for the fifth consecutive year with 85 team points, just four ahead of runner-up St. Vincent's. Bates (89 pts) was third, Amherst (111) placed fourth, and Vassar (121) rounded out the top five. In all, 43 teams participated in the event.

Johnson & Wales runner Greg Redfield captured individual honors with a 26:11 performance, 21 seconds ahead of runner-up Kevin Wanichko of St. Vincent. 296 athletes finished the 8K race.

For St. Joe's, Andrew Mockler '12 (Saco, ME) placed 233rd with a 32:57.2 effort and was followed by Jeff Letellier '12 (Biddeford, ME) (244th, 33:21.7), Austin Martin '12 (Boca Raton, FL) (249th, 33:34.8) and Sean Caldwell '11 (Marstons Mills, MA) (269th, 36:53.4).

The Monks will close out the 2009 campaign next Saturday when the team participates in the NCAA DIII Championships in Cumberland, ME. The men's race begins at 12:00 PM.
